Today on the DC Comics Blog the SDCC 2013 exclsuives were announced. It includes 4 products total as described below snipped from the DC site:

The first is Aardman: Superman Action Figure designed by Rich Webber and sculpted by Phil Ramirez. Created by Aardman, the British brains behind “WALLACE AND GROMIT,” is their own unique take on the Man of Steel. He is based on the popular interstitial shorts shown during DC Nation on Cartoon Network. Aardman: Superman is approximately 6.5” tall and is priced at $24.95.

The second is a three-pack of Super Best Friends Forever Action Figures, designed by Lauren Faust and sculpted by Irene Matar. Super Best Friends Forever is also from the popular interstitial shorts aired during DC Nation on Cartoon Network and they are ready to take care of business! Meet Super Best Friends Forever: Supergirl, Batgirl and Wonder Girl, measuring approximately 6.5”, 5.45” and 6.8” tall, respectively. This three-pack is priced at $49.95.

The third, Batman Arkham City: Hugo Strange was sculpted by Sam Greenwell. The Hugo Strange Action Figure is based on the designs of the critically acclaimed video game from Rocksteady Studios and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Batman: Arkham City. He measures approximately 6.75” tall and is priced at $29.95.

The fourth con exclusive is DC Comics’ Superheroes of Green Lantern four-pack. Green Lantern Sinestro and Dex-Starr were sculpted by Robert Lynders and Arkillo and Black Hand were sculpted by Phil Ramirez. Make sure to put the universe’s most fearsome foursome on your must-have list for SDCC; you don’t want to cross this intergalactic quartet! This set is in the 3.75” scale and priced at $49.95. This is the latest in the popular 3.75” con exclusive action figure from DC Collectibles.

DC Collectibles’ con exclusives will be available for purchase at the Graphitti Designs booth so make sure to stop by!

As strange as this might sound the set i’m most interested in is the Super Best Friends set as I think they are kind of cute and stylistic. I could care less about the 3.75″ Green Lantern figure because I’m not a Green Lantern fan and if the Injustice figures are any indication as to quality of these figures well then they are not worth the plastic they are cast in. Hugo Strange is pretty awesome looking but I dont think I need a figure of the character and I think i’m over Aardman figures and I know there will be a non con version of this if I really want it

Earlier today on the Hot Toys Facebook page they teased some new deluxe figures coming from Man of Steel. There were two teaser images that went along with the tease it self:

“One of the most anticipated blockbusters this summer, Man of Steel will begin to hit theaters worldwide next month! Audience will get to take a new look at the origin and rise of an iconic superhero. We know that fans have been eagerly waiting, and we are very excited and happy to inform you today that the collectible figures of Man of Steel will be coming soon!”

The only issue I have with these is, while certainly more interested than I was lets say a few months back, I’m still very meh on this whole movie. I’m sure they will be lovely like most figures from Hot Toys are but I dont think I am jumping on the buy them bandwagon. Other than that I find Jor El an interesting choice. I think i’d have rather seen Zod.

I took the time to read the Steam Engines of Oz by Arcana Studio Free Comic Book Day issue after I saw there was a Kickstarter Campaign to continue the series after its initial limited run. I wanted to like it I really did. I’m a fan of the Wizard of Oz and I’m a fan of Steampunk so it seemed like it should be a no brainer, but sadly I don’t think I’m backing this project. First off I don’t know how I feel about a company using Kickstarter to fund projects especially based on nothing but a single issue of a book with a series already planned. I the first 3 issue series does well and is received well they should be able to fund continuing the series that way. But that’s not really what I want to get into right now.
In my opinion the book just isn’t that good. I wasn’t blown away by the story by Sean Patrick O’Reilly and Erik Hendrix. I honestly thought it was weak and it didn’t sell me on the premise. The art, by Yannis Roumboulais, was ok but didn’t sell the book by itself, if the writing was solid the art would suffice to carry the story.
Check out the campaign if you’re interested and read the free issue if you have the chance to and form your own opinion but this one just wasn’t for me.

If you have not yet watched the season finale of Arrow stop reading this now and go watch it! Where the hell are your priorities? If you continue to read this without watching beware spoilers.

I know I’ve praised Arrow on the show many times and I’ve been all in really since the 2nd episode of the show ( I was still a bit hesitant after the first), but the season finale this week really cemented the greatness of this show in stone for me. It was a great culmination to the season long build up final confrontation between Malcolm and Ollie. Unlike some other shows that tease an epic battle then fail to deliver (I’m snarling at you Walking Dead) this finale went out with a bang…well more like an earth shattering explosion but you get the idea.

It was really nice to see Ollie and Diggle confront The Dark Archer together and defeat him more or less as a team. And while everyone else is talking about the death of Tommy ( more on that in a minute) the stand out for me this episode was the turnaround of Detective Lance. He finally, thanks to Felicity, fully understands the importance of The Hood. I can easily see, and would be ok with, him becoming sort of Olliver’s Jim Gordon moving forward. The development of his character this entire season has been really good and in my opinion it ended in the right spot.

Now onto Tommy, sorry folks but while I did not see his death coming at all it was absolutely necessary. Not only because his death has so much impact on almost everyone else on the show but because he was a loose end IMO. My one criticism of this show was that in the span of the first season far too many people knew The Hood’s true identity and I suspect season 2 will lead to a few more people knowing who he is. It also gives Oliver a good reason to continue to fight the good fight and not simply retire after The Undertaking. Bravo to the show’s writers for having the balls to do it.

Moving forward into season 2 I am really looking forward to the further development of Roy Harper and really hope he becomes Red Arrow in the second season. I may be in the minority on this one but I hope they don’t rush Black Canary in season 2. I’d be ok if that transition didn’t happen until late season 2 or even season 3 if the show lives that long. The other big thing for me in season 2 is Slade Wilson coming to the current continuity. I’m hoping his story in Starling City isn’t hokey though. I don’t want him to be straight up hero or villain. I’m ok with him being somewhere in between and I hope that’s the role he takes. I also really hope they give The Hood some sort of mask in season 2. I’m not feeling the green painted line or sometimes absolute nothing on his face. They need to adress this IMO and the costume would be fine.

Let me know your thoughts on the first season and what you think we can expect in Season2.
